Hi,
Hi, I'd be grateful for any help on this issue. We've got 2 x Dell PE R710s plugged in to new EqualLogic units. the R710s are running Server 2012 Datacenter Core.
I've had this posted on Mmicrosoft's technet forums for a week now, 50 views but no answers yet!
We hit a problem last week with one of the EqualLogics, which involved plugging a laptop into it via a serial cable. At that point, we decided to purchase some usb-serial splitters from StarTech (prolific chips), so we could leave the R710s plugged in to the EqualLogic units permanently.
The problem is, Server Core says nothing about this splitter cable. The driver is installed, it's certified, but running 'get-wmi Win32_Serialport' just returns com1 & 2. Despite enabling "Allow remote PnP" in the policy of the Server core box, Windows 8 RSAT Tools still can't see the remote device manager, so I can't see if the Prolific ports have any problems (although I found a PS script somewhere that found "bad" PnP devices and it returned "none found").
Can anyone help? I don't really want to install the full GUI of windows, isn't there a tool similar to DevCon.exe for Server 2012? Or any way of re-enumerating all the hardware devices from the CLI?
It doesn't sound that hard, to be honest- the driver is Server 2012 compatible, it's installed, and running "pnputil -e" returns the prolific driver. It's just this inability to see what's going on that's stopping me. I know this is strictly a Windows problem, but I'd be grateful for any help as no-one at MS has yet been able to help!
