I have an unusual quirk with our T110 server running Windows 2003 Server (x86) SP2. I installed a nice SSD to the server specifically for temp and pagefile usage as to not impact the RAID5 array carrying the OS. However, when going through my computer > properties > advanced > pagefile settings, although I am able to set the pagefile to the SSD, drive B: but when I try to set C: to "no page file", the system still generates a massive 12GB (1.5x RAM size - auto setting) pagefile on C. The system won't let me delete pagefile.sys, even though in the pagefile menu, it still shows as "no pagefile." I am able to reduce the pagefile on C: to something small, like 1MB, and it will shrink down to that size, but I then get "no more virtual memory - pagefile being resized." So right now, I have a 384MB minimum and 512MB maximum setting for the pagefile on C:, and a 2GB pagefile on B:. With that current setting, I'm not even sure if the pagefile on the SSD is even being used. It looks like the system is still defaulting to C: for the pagefile.
Any suggestions? And yes, I have reset the system after applying the setting. If setting C: to "no pagefile", it auto-generates a 12GB pagefile on C. Manually set the size, and it will stick to that size. B: responds appropriately in all settings.
